Biography

Dr. Ying Zhang received her B.S. degree from Tongji University in Materials Science and Engineering. She received a M.S. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Materials Engineering and a M.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Electrical Engineering in 2001 and 2002, respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley in Systems Engineering in 2006. Dr. Zhang is a Licensed Professional Engineer.

Dr. Zhang is currently a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and serves as its Senior Associate Chair, effective August 1, 2021. She is the director of the Sensors and Intelligent Systems Laboratory at Georgia Tech. Her research interests focus on systems-level interdisciplinary problems in wireless sensor networks, Internet of Things, biomedical engineering, structural health monitoring, and intelligent monitoring and diagnostic systems. She has published more than 100 technical papers in international journals and conferences in multiple engineering disciplines.

Dr. Zhang received the Lockheed Martin Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012, NSF Early Faculty Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2013, Hesburgh Award Teaching Fellow in 2017, TechConnect National Innovation Award (with Zongyang Xia) in 2017, and TechConnect Defense Innovation Award (with Zongyang Xia) in 2017. Dr. Zhang is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal.
